How to Measure Your Video’s Success: The Latest Video Metrics

We’ve told you before some important video metrics that are necessary to judge how well your video performed, but now, we’d like to give you an update on a few more measuring tools that are important to watch.  Tools mentioned in our previous blog are still important, so be sure to look out for:

  • Responsive website visits

  • Number of views

  • Subscription rate

  • Quality of video comments

But, just like our bodies change with time, so do these metrics.

Advances in technology are the culprits behind changing metrics. A decade ago we wouldn’t have even guessed the influence tablets and smartphones would have on the virtual market. That, combined with a ton of social sites, such as Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, Twitter, Quora, Google +, Vine, Instagram, Tumblr, (must I go on because I think you get the idea), have changed the way companies interact with consumers online.

E-commerce has drifted from what use to be an emphasis in information intensive content to an emphasis in the convenience and mobility of the content. Consumers, living their busy lives, want things at their fingertips 24/7.

Now let’s update your playbook, and look at a few of the latest metrics in online videos:

  • Source of views: Pay attention to what devices the audience is using to view your absolutely awesome video. According to a study by Adobe, mobile video views have surged 300% in the year 2012.  Knowing if your audience isn’t using a mobile device to view your video is a clear indication you are not optimizing the video’s potential or something is wrong with the video for playback on a mobile device.

  • Share-ability: With the Internet containing countless sites for social B2C and C2C interactions, it’s a good idea to pay attention to how many shares and likes your video is receiving. During this age of virtual social interaction, the greater the number of shares and likes means your video is more engaging.
