Revolution Productions Spotlight: GuitarBots Explainer Video

Want to see something really cool? Our latest explainer video for GuitarBots mixes animation and live action video styles, all into one video. Bam. Do we know how to make an explainer video or what?

First check out the video so you can see how we put this together.

As you have probably noticed, most of our explainer videos have either animation or live action, typically not both video styles. So why the change? Are we just sick of our old ways? Not really. For this specific client, it made sense to use both.

So what do we do? Well, we start out with this guy:

And that becomes this guy:

See what we did there? So the question becomes: Why did we decide to use both? For this particular client, we can explain their offering via animation. So the beginning of the explainer video production is set solely in animation – this sets the scene. Since this is a very physical product, we decided to literally put it into the hands of the target audience and shift the video to live action.

By moving to a live action sequence, potential customers already understand how the product works, but now they can see people like them using it. The video also stands out more because of the two styles mixed together.

In order to make this shift seamless, we shift the same scene from animation to live action:

Integrating animation and live action in an explainer video

This makes it less jarring for the viewer’s eye. It is seamless and easy to follow. Most explanatory videos don’t have different styles, but, when done right, it can really impact the viewer and be a great way to explain your product or service.
