How Does Your Online Video Look on Mobile Devices?

How does video look on mobile devices

There are a couple of things you need to keep in mind before you launch your online video, and one of those things concerns tablets, smart phones, and all mobile devices.

Did you know….

  • According to Ooyala, tablet/smart phone video viewing has jumped a whopping 90% in six months. That’s a lot!
  • What are people watching on these devices? Well, they are watching longer videos. Tablet owners are spending 71% of their total tablet video viewing time watching videos that are 10 minutes or longer.
  • Even more, about 30% of total tablet viewing time was spent watching content over an hour long.

So, users are really using tablets and smart phones to watch longer videos. Why not produce an educational video series? Well, make sure that is easily streamable on smart phones and tablets, because people like to use them to watch longer videos.

Keep in mind that Flash may not be supported on all mobile devices, so you do not always have the option of using Flash Video Player. The good news is that many of these devices have their own video players, so when the user clicks on the video they are taken to the device’s video player for their viewing pleasure. One thing you may want to remember is that HD videos need to be encoded and compressed. You can, luckily, Google this and find different software to help you with this technique.

When you are considering online video services, be sure to talk with your production company about this. The last thing you want is for less people to be able to see your amazing explainer video!
