Almost everything you watch nowadays has some sort of mobile device present throughout the video. Typically it is a Smartphone or tablet, but why? Why do companies pick the device they do and what’s their purpose in the video.
Let’s start by tackling the first question, shall we?
Throughout the general lifespan of the mobile device, we’ve seen products in the industry change dramatically. From the ancient mobile corded phone with a carrying case to the revolutionizing flip-phone to today’s beauties like the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the iPad, we’ve seen these all provide some method of interaction through communication.
To state it quite simply, you have to match your product with the proper mobile technology your target group uses. The mobile device, whether being a smartphone or tablet, should be the latest device in the technology world.
Let’s take a look at the video we produced for TableTalk Sites. Notice how we showed the audience the preferred way to use the product is through a tablet. We didn’t decide to use the tablet just because it had a bigger interface, but because studies have shown a vast majority of tablet users prefer to use their tablets for shopping over their smartphones. This helps explain the product in a better context.
Now for the second question; what is the main purpose of a mobile device in your product video?
Sure the answer to this question is dependent on your product, but for most, a mobile device demonstrates how users can effectively access or use the product.
Using the TableTalk Sites video again, we can clearly see how users are expected to use TableTalk’s product. Even in an animated video like this one, a demonstration of the product is an important part of the consumer understanding process. It will allow the user to visually interpret if the product can provide benefit, and showing it on the intended type of mobile device aids the demonstration.
